Overrated by Eugene Cho Review

Overrated

I got to say that this is one of those books that you love and hate at the same time, you love it because it challenges you in so many levels but you hate it for the same reason.

I can’t thank Eugene enough for writing this book, not only for writing it but also for the honesty of his words, the courage to show us his own struggles.

It gives me hope to see  that despite all the darkness in the world, light is shinning stronger than ever, darkness is being pushed back and this book invites us to be part of that resistance.

This is at the very beginning of the book and it stopped me on my tracks:

“I admit to being more in love with the idea of changing the world … than actually changing the world.”

We all like the idea of changing the world until we understand the price that comes with actually doing something about it, so  thank you for showing me that the fact that it’s not easy to fight injustice doesn’t mean that I need to lay down and do nothing. Yes there is a cost, but to care for what jesus cares is worth it, to actually be the church is worth the cost.

This book is not a “how to be awesome guide” for justice fighters, in the words of Eugene him self, this is a confession, this is a look at me and my shortcomings in this process kind of book. I love this particular confession: “Ironically, in my spiritual attempts to “change the world,” I learned how much I need to change. As I sought to do justice, God sought to change me.”

So I invite you to get this book, read it and share it with others. God is all about Justice and He invites us to join in, to be a part of His mission, to show others that He cares, and as His church, we care for what He cares.

Make it Rain

Grace Abounds

I lived in the high desert of Northwestern New Mexico for nine years of my life. We were constantly in a drought, and green pastures weren’t easy to come by. Long story short, I know a thing or two about dry seasons, yet I have no clue as to how to deal with the spiritual drought that is happening in my life right now.

An interesting thing has been revealed to me during this drought, when God appears to be silent. So many questions have come flooding to my mind (See my previous blog entry). I have gotten a good glimpse of who I really am, and what kind of stuff I am truly made of.

I’d love to say that I have discovered a courageous warrior who has the endurance and stamina to press on and stand strong, but I can’t. It’d be great to be telling people about how much…
